You and I were born one day. And both of us will die one day.
While we are not certain about anything else, we can tell this one truth with certainty.
No one has escaped this truth of dying one day, and no one ever will.
Even the Gods that we believe in, or the messengers of Gods – across all religions – were born one day and died one day. So who are you and I to escape it.
And yet, death is the last thing that we want to think of.
Ask a 90-year-old man if he often reflects upon death, and he will tell you, “Oh, I have lot of time left. I’m not dying anytime soon. I’ll think of it when the time comes.”
That’s what we all do. We don’t even want to think about death, and all we want to do is to enjoy our lives to as much extent as we can, assuming that we are going to live forever.
And that’s why when death comes, we are unprepared. We are not able to let go our desires, our attachments to all things.
Even at your last breath, you are thinking of something, worrying about something, having some desire in your heart. And that’s how, when you leave this body, that unfulfilled wish, that unfulfilled desire, that worrying thought, doesn’t let you free. It makes you wander here and there until you are born again.
And then, the same cycle continues as before. Nothing changes. And you never escape this cycle of birth and death.
If we take a honest look at life, we realize that birth is suffering, death is suffering. It’s only in the middle somewhere that we enjoy our life, and that middle part, too, has its fair share of suffering.
It’s only when you realize the truth of dying, the truth of suffering, do you want to break free of it.
Every religion shares a dream of a heaven in some form, and so every religion believes that we are more than this body, more than this mind, and there is more to us than our current life.
But if you reflect upon it, even heaven can’t be free of suffering. Because where there is a heaven, a hell, too, will exist somewhere, and the fight between heaven and hell will also be there.
If you are born in heaven, then you must also die in heaven some day. If you are allowed in heaven, then you must also leave heaven some day. That’s the nature of all things in this universe.
If the heaven was created one day, then that heaven, too, must get destroyed one day.
So your highest goal in life, all your actions in life, shouldn’t be limited to going to heaven one day. It should be to break free from this cycle of birth and death permanently. Once and for all.
Because, if you don’t break free from this cycle of birth and death, you will continue to suffer endlessly.
You will born, you will die. The world will born, the world will die. Planets will born, planets will die. Galaxies will born, galaxies will die. Heaven and hell will born, heaven and hell will die. The universe itself will born, the universe will die.
Everything that’s born will die one day. What rises today, must fall tomorrow. What blossoms today, must wither tomorrow. What comes today, must go tomorrow. What awakens today, must sleep tomorrow. What becomes today, must unbecome tomorrow. What attaches to you today, must detach from you tomorrow.
That is the nature of all things. That is the nature of universe. No one can change it. And no one can do anything about it.
The only thing one can do is break free from this cycle of birth and death, and the way to do it – the only way there is – is to let go your attachments to each and every thing in this universe.
Let go all your attachments to all your loved ones. Let go all your attachments to all your possessions. Let go all your attachments to your own thoughts. Let go all your attachments to your own desires. Let go all your attachments to even all your Gods.
For, if there is even a tiniest bit of attachment left in you, that tiniest bit of attachment will hold on to something and want to become more and more. So the only way to break free the cycle is to become free – become totally, absolutely, permanently, free – of all your attachments.
This is the only way. There is no other way.
You can’t attach yourself to something and claim to be free at the same time. You can’t even attach yourself to a thought, an idea, an imagination, an illusion, and claim to be free.
You are not your thoughts, your ideas, your imaginations, or your illusions. You are more than them.
You are not your body, your brain, your mind, your ego, your desires, what you own, who you are related to, where you live, what work you do, and whatever you identify yourself with.
So many “Gurus” these days will tell you how unique you are, how special you are. Absolute nonsense.
No one is unique. You and I are the one and the same. And not just you and I, but everything around us – the trees, the bees, the ants, the dogs, the elephants, and even a stone, or a drop of water, or the tiniest atom or particle that exists, each and everything in this universe including the universe itself, is one and the same.
Everything is consciousness – it’s only the form of the consciousness that changes. You are consciousness. I am consciousness. And only the consciousness exists everywhere.
You may call it consciousness, soul, atman, God particle, truth, dharma, presence, or whatever spiritual term is in fashion currently, that’s the only reality that exists. Everything else is fake.
If you go to a beach and you take a bucket of sand, and make tiny human statues with it. And then, once you make them, you destroy them all, and make more statues out of the same sand. And you keep doing this creation and destruction hundreds of times, or suppose it was possible for you to do it, you kept doing it trillions of times. What’s actually happening here?
In reality, you are neither creating anything, nor destroying anything. Those trillions of times that you created, and those trillions of things that you created, were all one and the same sand. And nothing more.
It’s you who gave them an existence. It’s you who gave them a shape, and perhaps a name. But that doesn’t change their reality. They were sand when they began, and they were sand when they ended.
That is what this universe is. Everything that’s made in it, including you and me, is made out of the same thing. Our forms may change, our shapes may change, but at the most basic level we all are the same consciousness. And yet we fight like fools with each other, assuming that we all are different.
Just as those sand statues, the universe, and everything in it, is created again and again billions and trillions of times, infinite times, and it gets destroyed as many times.
If someone were to take a look at the universe from outside it, they will see that it’s the same collective consciousness at play all the time, and nothing else.
It’s we who give a name, an identity, to all this drama. It’s the same sand all the time. It’s the same consciousness all the time. And everything that’s created, and everything that’s done, everything that’s destroyed, has no meaning, no purpose, no goal.
It’s all totally, utterly, useless. So why bother with it? Why make yourself suffer by giving meaning to the meaningless, by giving a name to the nameless, by assuming a form of the formless, by trying to make sense of the senseless.
Let it go already. Stop living in an illusion. Stop being a part of this drama. Stop being a fool. Stop being what’s false.
And instead, be the truth. Become one with truth. Become one with reality. Become one with God itself. Become one with the purest form of consciousness itself.
Become one with Buddha, Ram, Krishna, Shiva himself, or become one with whatever God/Goddess/Object/Concept of whatever religion you believe in to be the highest of them all.
All the Gods and Goddesses too are the same consciousness as me and you. The only difference is that they are one with the universe itself, by being the purest form of consciousness that exists, while you and I and everyone else here have let this pure consciousness get muddied with all our desires, and thoughts, and feelings, and attachments, and imaginations, and illusions, and falsehood.
It’s time you broke the cycle of existence. It’s time you broke the cycle of birth and death, and gained permanent victory over them. It’s time for you to put an end to all your suffering, once and for all.
Enough of this stupidity. It’s time for you and me to become the truth again, the consciousness in its purest form again, one with our God again, one with universe again.
And it’s time to become what you and I always were, before all this drama began. It’s time to break free, and it’s time to kick out this ego of ours, so that we can become the egoless, so that we can become the timeless, so that we can become the formless, so that we can become the senseless, so that we can become one with God itself.
And it’s time we do all that within this lifetime. For time is running out.
